William “Bill” G. Gartzke, age 92, of Manawa, went to his heavenly home on Monday, May 22, 2023.
He was born on May 21, 1931 in the Town of Little Wolf, son of the late William and Geraldine (Timm) Gartzke. Bill was raised on a farm, graduated from Little Wolf High School, and went to college for music. He returned home and stayed on the farm for many years retiring in 1994. After retiring from farming, he worked at the Manawa Recycling Center and also became a two term Mayor for the City of Manawa. Bill loved working in his garden. He married Ruby Arndt, she preceded him in death in 2003. He then married Ginny Hoppe and she preceded him in death in 2013. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa.
He is survived by his children: Sharon (John) Watson, David (Kay) Gartzke; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by his sister Donna (Duane) Reed.
The funeral service for Bill will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa with Rev. Nathan Reichle officiating. Burial will be in Little Wolf Cemetery, Town of Little Wolf. A visitation for Bill will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Dahlke Funeral & Cremation Care of Manawa is serving the family.
