Pethke Repair Service will close its doors May 31.

Jay Pethke has operated the business at E4128 State Highway 161 for 23 years.

The business is a Stihl and Interstate battery dealer that also does hydraulic hose making, heavy truck repair and tractor repair,

The last three years have been the hardest because of problems in getting products and parts due to covid-related shutdowns, said Pethke’s son, Jeremy.

“I gave dad a one-year notice that I would be moving on to be a full-time firefighter down in the Fox Valley,” he said. “Then, Scott Siegel was at the shop during lunch and Dad just mentioned that if he could get a certain dollar amount for the building and property, he would sell in a heartbeat. Scott said, ‘Let’s do it.’”

Siegel also owns the salvage yard near Pethke Repair.

The Pethkes said their biggest accomplishment was being able to serve a large area with customer-focused service.

“The customers have become our family and friends,” Jeremy said. “That is what we will miss the most. Thank you all for all the years of support and business.”

Jay and his wife, Cindy, will continue to live in the Iola area.
