Iola Mills owners Ed and Angie Lemar invite everyone to come and celebrate the stone sawmill restoration project from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at 300 N. Main St., Iola.

“There will be live music, yard games and we will be grilling up brats,” Ed Lemar said. “Jules (Melum) is brewing an Oktoberfest lager and a pilsner. We will have custom-printed Mason jar mugs for sale to drink from.”

Proceeds from the event will be used to put a new roof on the stone sawmill, which Melum Masonry is restoring.

“I feel honored to be able to have Melum Masonry be a part of the restorations,” Melum said. “As many know, we are a third-generation business. My father and grandfather have had their hand in building some of the buildings here in town. I feel a sense of pride to be able to carry the masonry practice on with the Melum name.”

“The building itself is important because its history as a sawmill,” Lemar said. “The restoration has really brought the community together. Charlie Wasrud milled the new beams with his sawmill and his son Ben is going to help place them.”

The hope is that the building can be used as a covered outdoor space for events like weddings, family reunions, parties and more.
