During the Nov. 28 school board meeting, Director of Pupils Nick Schultek said the girls’ flag football team will play at Lambeau Field at halftime during the Green Bay Packers game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at noon Sunday, Dec. 17.

The game was organized by football coach Colton Zimmerman and the team will play six minutes on the field.

Two coaches will be allowed on the field. Four teams were invited to play. The Warhawks will play Milwaukee Reagan in the north side of the field.
Shawano will play Clayton on the south side.

“This will be something for these girls and they will never forget this. They will play in front of sixty-some thousand people,” said Schultek

Halftime is loaded with commerical breaks on television but Schultek speculated the camera might pan over the action, along with some brief mention by NFL sportscasters.

Other business

Schultek also briefed the board about applying for a grant that would fund a middle school counselor for two years.

A previous student engagement survey indicated a need for one. Also the school will apply for a $1,000 suicide prevention grant and a $5,000 mental health grant.

The school has struggled to find a speech therapist and now a few candidates are in the interview process.

Another project that will be soon underway is ACCESS testing for the school’s Spanish-speaking students that are ESL (English as a Second Language) learners. The testing is intensive and teachers must receive training to administer it.

John Kiefer, director of business services, apprised the board about applying for an equipment assistance grant. If awarded, the funds would go toward purchasing new hot holding cabinets. They are the shelved boxes on rollers used to transport hot school lunches.
