Comets stay perfect in GNC

Hockey team shuts out Medford

Three boys’ hockey teams are off to a 3-0-0 start in the Great Northern Conference.

One of them is the Waupaca Comets.

The Comets stayed unbeaten in conference play Dec. 14 with an 11-0 win over Medford at the Waupaca Ice & Expo Center. Waupaca also dropped a 4-1 nonconference game to Marshfield Dec. 12.

Waupaca 10, Medford 3

The Comets found the net five times against the Raiders in the first period before adding two goals in the second and four more in the third period.

Ryan Mace, Jace Moen, Liam Bloedow and Alex Gusmer had two goals for Waupaca and Zack Gusmer, Blake Schoenecker and Warren Carlson added one each.

The Comets had 41 shots in the game and goalie Gavin Hafferman stopped all 14 of Medford’s attempts.

Marshfield 4, Waupaca 1

Tyler Reissmann’s hat trick helped lead the Tigers to the win.

Alex Gusmer scored Waupaca’s goal in the third period.

The Comets will host their annual holiday invitational Wednesday to Friday, Dec. 27-29, at the Expo. Teams from Merrill, Mosinee and Whitefish Bay will also compete.
