Library screens double feature

Waupaca to show ‘Bringing Up Baby’ and ‘Cinderella’

The Waupaca Area Public Library will show a double feature for its First Thursday Film Series on Feb. 1.

“Bringing Up Baby” will screen at 1:30 p.m., followed by “Cinderella” at 4 p.m.

Starring Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant, “Bringing Up Baby” is a 1938 screwball comedy directed by Howard Hawkes.

Grant plays a paleontologist, David Huxley, who is searching for one last bone to finish his Brontosaurus skeleton. He is also engaged.

The day before his wedding, Huxley meets the eccentric Susan Vance, played by Hepburn, at a golf course after she accidentally plays his ball.

Mistaking him for a zoologist, Vance talks Huxley into accompanying her to her Connecticut farm where she is taking the tame leopard her brother sent her.

Complications ensue, Huxley’s long-awaited dinosaur bone arrives only to be buried by Vance’s dog and they are arrested for strange behavior, among other shenanigans.

“Cinderella” is a 1950 Walt Disney animated feature that earned three Academy Award nominations. It’s success at the box office helped rescue Disney from pending bankruptcy due to losing international market share during World War II.
