Waupaca girls win top honors, again

The Waupaca Middle School dance team returned home with first-place awards in both jazz and pom at the JEM (Junior. Elementary and Middle School) state competition Saturday, Jan. 20, at Port Washington High School.

This is the second year they have won both championship events and the second year they have won the pom championship.

“This year came with a lot of emotions,” according to Heather Melenski, the mother of a WMS dance team member, Emeri Powers.

She attributed the dance team’s success at the state championship to “our dancers’ perseverance and continuous grit to push through the season.”
