Police respond to gunshot wound

Incident happens outside Waupaca store

Waupaca police officers responded to a report shortly before 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, of a man with a gunshot wound at the Dollar General store on West Fulton Street.

When they arrived, they spoke to a 54-year-old man who accidentally shot himself in the leg.

According to police, the man was manipulating his firearm while getting into his vehicle when the weapon discharged. He had a concealed carry permit.

The man was transported to ThedaCare Neenah with non-life threatening injuries.

No other people were injured as a result of the firearm and there is no danger to the public, police said.
