Ellwyn W. Nickel, age 77, of Waupaca, moved on to his next great journey on Saturday, March 16, 2024
at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah, WI.
He was born October 19, 1946 in Manitowoc, WI; son of Allen and Mildred (Bruss) Nickel. The Nickel family moved from Manitowoc to Waupaca when Ellwyn was a small child. He graduated from Waupaca High School in 1964. Ellwyn had his own excavating business for many years before working for Faulks Bros., Pagel Construction, and retiring from Mashuda Contractors. He was a proud member of Operators Union Local 139. Ellwyn enjoyed telling a good story, having a couple of cocktails, and watching old westerns from his custom bar stool. He may have been set in his ways to a fault at times, yet Ellwyn and the stories shared will be missed.
Ellwyn is survived by his fiancée Traci Johnson of Waupaca; his three children Gary (Susan) Nickel of Appleton, Kevin Nickel of Waupaca, and Tiffany (Bryan) Johnson of Waupaca; five grandchildren Dutch, Emmy, & Josie Nickel and Libby & Maxwell Johnson; a brother-in-law Larry Will of Waupaca; two sisters-in-law Kathy Nickel of Waupaca and Susan Nickel of Waupaca; and also by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Mildred Nickel; two brothers Vincent Nickel and DuWayne Nickel; and two sisters Doreen (Don) Mayer and Priscilla Will.
A Funeral Service for Ellwyn will be on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca. A visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place following the service on Friday at Lind Center Cemetery in Waupaca. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
