Grunwald, Robert A.

Robert A. “Hoss” “Gruny” Grunwald, age 72, of New London, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at his home.

He was born on June 4, 1951 in New London, WI, the son of the late Russell and Barbara (Griswold) Grunwald. Following high school, Bob farmed on the family farm for many years. Now he was helping out a various farms throughout the Readfield area. He was very active in his lifelong church, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dale, where he held many positions and was involved in the many events at the church. Bob also enjoyed being active with the Union Thresherman’s Club in Symco and attending the Thesheree every year.

In his earlier years, Bob enjoyed golfing and bowling. He will always be remembered as a very social person, he loved good conversations, making jokes and telling stories with everyone. He especially enjoyed organizing and being part of many events in his Oakwood Estates neighborhood, most notably playing the role of Santa every year.

On March 14, 1997 Bob married Debra Basler at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dale. She preceded him in death on December 13, 2020.

Robert is survived by four children, April (Richard)Reul, Jennifer (Shawn) Rickert, Phillip Grunwald and Becky Grunwald; a special niece, Tiffany Gorges; three step-daughters, Tiffani (Mike) Mueller, Melissa (Nate) Norton and Amanda (Kyle) Herbst; five grandchildren, Alex (Michaela) Rickert, Savana Rickert, William Fiestsauser, Chad Grunwald and Mackenzi Grunwald; step-grandchildren, Derrick Mueller, Daniele Lutz, Jillian Reimer, Taylor Boardman, Kaden and Kaleb Herbst and Ethan and Amelia Norton; two great-granddaughters, Layla Jo and Olivia Gilbertson; a brother, Steve(Pat)Grunwald and two sisters, Cindy Grunwald and Lisa (Gary) Freda; special friend, Ann Bonikowski; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Debra, and two grandson, Daniel Grunwald and Joseph Feisthauser.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 11AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, N926 Dale Ave., Dale, WI, 54931. Rev. Paul Ibisch will officiate. Burial will be in Dale Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from 9AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Dale and Union Thresherman’s Club.
