By Holly Neumann

The Manawa Wolves lost 40-21 to the Amherst Falcons in a Central Wisconsin Conference matchup on Friday, Sept. 28.

The Falcons were the first on the board on a 5-yard run by Lincoln Cullen, followed by Chris Anderson kicking the point after. Amherst was up 7-0.

The Wolves answered with a touchdown of their own on the next play of the game when Jackson Jaeger returned the kick 93 yards for Manawa. Mason Wiesner’s point after kick tied the game at 7-7.

The scoring went back and forth once again when Cullen scored on a 13-yard run for the Falcons. Later Manawa’s Wiesner threw the ball to Nate Reynolds who ran the ball in. Amherst had a 14-13 after the first quarter.

Each team scored one more time in the second quarter to tie the game at 21-21 at the half where they remained deadlocked moving into the final quarter of the game.

Penalties and turnovers plagued the Wolves during the fourth quarter and the Falcons capitalized on that.

On the first play Amherst’s Josh Rieck broke the tie on a 29-yard touchdown run, followed by Cullen scoring first on a 1-yard run and later on a 20-yard run to give the Amherst the win.

Amherst improves to 5-0 and Manawa drops to 2-3 in the Central Wisconsin Conference.

Manawa will travel the Weyauwega-Fremont on Oct. 5 to take on the Indians.
