Gillett returns home with win

Gillett spoiled the first game of the season for the Weyauwega-Fremont girls’ basketball team by handing the Indians a 62-50 loss Nov. 13.
A 14-2 run gave the Indians a 17-5 lead midway through the first half, but the Tigers responded with a 21-2 run to take a 26-19 lead.
The Indians chipped away at the lead for the rest of the half, but still trailed 28-26 at the break.
Katie Bleck tied the game at 28-28 early in the second half, but the Indians never regained the lead.
Gillett led by as many as five points until Karissa Schaal and Aubrey DeBauch hit three-pointers that give the visitors a 53-42 lead. The Indians never got any closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
Taylor Folk hit three three-pointers for the Indians and led all scorers with 15 points, while teammate Rylee Bartel added 13.
Schaal led Gillett with 14 points, while DeBauch and Camryn Long chipped in with 12 each.
The Indians will travel to Stevens Point Thursday, Nov. 15, to face Pacelli at 7 p.m. before hosting New London at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26.
