Council approves permits

Domino’s moving, church adding space

By Angie Landsverk

Domino’s Pizza is moving to a new location in the city, and Church of Christ of Waupaca is preparing to build an addition.

The Waupaca Common Council approved special use permits related to both projects when it met on May 7.

The special use permit for Domino’s Pizza was approved by a vote of 9-0.

The restaurant is moving from 970 Furman Drive to 1020 W. Fulton St., where Arby’s was most recently located.

Domino’s Pizza opened in Waupaca in late 2017.

Andrew Dane, the city’s interim planning director, said the new location offers several advantages.

One of them is the opportunity to have a drive-thru, he said.

Church of Christ plans to expand onto adjacent vacant land in its downtown location.

Located at 215 W. Badger St., the congregation has been meeting there since the mid 1970s.

The church’s worship auditorium and restrooms are too small to accommodate its current membership and future growth.

Just over a year ago, property next to the church was for sale.

The church bought it, intending to add a new auditorium and better accessible restrooms.

The house has been demolished, and the church now wants to build an addition west of its existing structure.

Eight members of the council voted in favor of granting a special use permit for the church.

Eric Olson abstained because he attends the church.

Mary Phair was absent that evening.

A request to rezone the property was also on the council’s agenda.

It was on first reading, with the second reading scheduled to be on the council’s May 21 agenda.
