Abandoned car leads to felony

Woman allegedly walked away while her friend overdosed

Desiree Rose Osman, 28, Fremont, is charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 12:25 p.m. Friday, June 21, a 911 caller reported an older green car had stalled in front of the Waupaca Hotel, a woman exited the passenger’s side and pushed it to the side of the road into a handicap parking spot.

The male driver appeared to be asleep.

When Waupaca Police Officer Diana Flatoff responded to the 200 block of East Union Street, she did not see a green car in the hotel’s handicap parking spot, but she did see one across the street in the Bank First parking lot.

A woman was sitting in the driver’s seat of a green 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Flatoff drove around the hotel, but did not find a green car.

When she returned to the car in the bank’s lot, Flatoff saw the woman walking away from the car.

The officer made contact with the woman, who identified herself as Osman.

While Flatoff questioned Osman, Officer Sam VanDinter checked the green car and found a man passed out in the passenger’s seat.

The man appeared to have overdosed on drugs, and an ambulance was called.

According to the criminal complaint, Osman said she and the man each snorted a line of heroin.

Osman reportedly said the man fell asleep while driving home.

She said she moved him to the passenger’s seat. parked the car and left him, intending to call 911.

Officers found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Osman’s purse. No heroin was found.

Osman was released on a $2,000 signature bond. She faces up to 12 years in prison.
