It took longer than expected, but the Iola-Scandinavia football team finally has a win under its belt.

After losing their first two nonconference games to Montello/Princeton/Green Lake and Mosinee, the defending WIAA Division 5 state champions opened Central Wisconsin Conference-Large play Sept. 6 with a 40-6 win over Weyauwega-Fremont.

A pair of one-play drives helped the Thunderbirds take a 20-0 halftime lead.

Parker Prahl opened the scoring with a 51-yard quarterback keeper on the T-Birds’ first play from scrimmage. He added the first of his two 41-yard touchdown passes to Will Cady early in the second quarter and Cady scored on a 92-yard run on the first play of another drive.

Prahl and Cady hooked up for another 41-yard pass to cap the T-Birds’ first drive of the second half. Prahl added a 67-yard touchdown run later in the quarter and the T-Birds took a 33-0 lead into the final period.

Prahl’s third touchdown pass of the game, a 66-yarder to Ed Bonikowske, came early in the fourth quarter.

The Indians avoided a shutout with Quinn Dittmann’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Doede.

The T-Birds outgained the Indians 511-183, including 323-135 on the ground and 188-48 through the air.

Prahl, making his first varsity start, completed eight of 14 passes, including six to Cady for 114 yards and also led the T-Birds in rushing with 158 yards.

The Indians also had a 100-yard rusher in Colton Reeck, who finished with 101 on 19 carries.
