Iola man sent to prison

Narcotics charge follows traffic stop

David S. Hintz Sr., 50, Iola, is charged with possession of narcotics with intent to deliver.

On Aug. 1, Deputy Bryan Strobusch stopped Hintz for driving without a seatbelt.

Strobusch reported finding a prescription bottle for 240 oxycodin tablets. Only 11 tablets remained.

The deputy estimated that if Hintz was taking the pills as prescribed, there should have been 104 still in the bottle.

On Hintz’s cellphone, Strobusch found text messages from a woman, apparently asking Hintz to sell her oxycodone.

Strobusch later spoke to the woman, who said she purchased oxycodone approximately five times from Hintz in July.

At the time of his arrest in August, Hintz was on probation following two Jan. 23 convictions for delivery and possession of narcotics.

On Nov. 13, Hintz was charged for the Aug. 1 incident.

On Nov. 14, Judge Troy Nielsen revoked Hintz’s probation and sentenced him to 18 months in state prison and 18 months of extended supervision.
