Hortonville boys get home win
By Greg Seubert
Deep freezes are nothing new in mid-January in Wisconsin.
Just ask the New London boys’ basketball team.
Hortonville held the Bulldogs to four points over the final nine minutes Jan. 18 to wrap up a 69-49 nonconference win at Hortonville High School.
The game was still in doubt midway through the second half. Hortonville went into the locker room at halftime with a 34-32 lead, but New London scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 40-34 lead.
The lead didn’t last long, however, as the Polar Bears answered with a 15-5 run to take a 49-45 lead.
Hortonville then closed the game out with a 20-4 run.
The Polar Bears improved to 13-2, while the Bulldogs fell to 7-4.
Jayqon Owens led the Polar Bears with 17 points, while Logan Grossman added 14 and Mason Thiel and Parker Lawrence finished with 10 each.
New London’s Gabe Wohlt led all scorers with 20 points, while Connor Brinkman and Garret Locy scored 11 and 10, respectively.
New London’s nonconference schedule continued Jan. 21 at Mosinee and the Bulldogs will host Lakeland at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24.
Hortonville will return to Fox Valley Association play at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at home against Kaukauna.
