‘War Survivor’s Memoirs’

Zaboj presents program on Czech death march

Edie Zaboj will present “War Survivor’s Memoirs” at 6 p.m. Friday, March 6, in Weyauwega-Fremont High School’s Performing Arts Center.

Zaboj and her husband Frank live in Weyauwega.

Her reflection will be given through the eyes of her late mother-in-law Mary, who was born in in 1910 in Iglau (now Jihlava in the Czech Republic).

Zaboj will tell the story of Mary who with Frank also survived living in a war zone and after the war – the death march, slave labor and prison – before being transported to West Germany as part of 3 million political prisoners of the Communist Party.

They were sponsored for immigration by a relative and arrived in the United States in June 1949.

Mary died in 1979. Her husband Frank died in 1976.

The free program is being sponsored by the Weyauwega Area Historical Society during Women’s History Month.

The public is invited.

Zaboj will also give her presentation that afternoon for W-F High School students.

Prior to the evening program, the historical society will serve light snacks.

That will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The Performing Arts Center is located at 500 E. Ann St., Weyauwega.
