COVID-19 reported at city hall

Three Weyauwega city officials quarantined

By Angie Landsverk

Weyauwega’s city administrator and two other city employees are quarantined at home for 14 days due to exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

All three of them were in close contact with the person on two occasions at City Hall earlier this week, City Administrator Jeremy Schroeder told the Waupaca County Post on Thursday, July 16.

“I was notified by Waupaca County Public Health that a couple of us were exposed to a person who tested positive and is having mild symptoms, and we need to quarantine for our safety and everyone’s safety,” he said.

Schroeder cannot share who the other two employees are.

The contact from Public Health was on Wednesday morning.

The city then closed its municipal building to the public.

“We know for sure the building will be closed to the public for 14 days,” he said.

Schroeder said he has no COVID-19 symptoms.

“I’m working remotely. I cannot leave home for 14 days,” he said.

Schroeder said he is following Public Health’s guidelines.

As the city’s administrator, Schroeder said he needs to do what is best for the employees and the community.

City Hall closed to public

The general public cannot be in City Hall right now, he said.

A small number of staff members remain in the building.

They are separated in their own offices and continue to social distance as they have been, Schroeder said.

Sanitizing and a deep cleaning are taking place inside the building.

When asked what protocols had been in place at City Hall, he said there was hand sanitizer for those who walked into the building and social distancing.

The city did not have a mask requirement at City Hall.

There has been a plexiglass barrier between the public and staff since the building was remodeled and expanded several years ago.

Schroeder said he did a meeting via Zoom with the city’s department heads about all procedures and practices.

There will be an update for the common council when it meets on Monday, July 20, he said.
That meeting will take place virtually via Zoom.
