Mid-Winter Art Show displayed 199 works

Wolf River Art League volunteers worked months in advance to plan a safe 51st annual Mid-Winter Art Show at Crystal Falls on Feb. 13-14.

The show displayed 199 works of art from 77 registered artists.

Professional, non-professional, and student artists submitted their pieces in three categories: 2-Dimensional, 3-Dimensional, and Photography.

Each piece of art was judged by Professor Emeritus Christine Style of Green Bay. Thirty-seven ribbons were awarded in total and cash prizes given to the top winners.

People’s Choice Award

A People’s Choice Award was given to Jason Hornung of Clintonville for his large watercolor giraffe.

Also featured at the show was a large display of “Start Art” mural photographs, providing the public a sense of what it took to fill the empty walls of New London with art over the past year. League member and local artist Bridget Kurth displayed a sturgeon mural painted on board to be installed this spring.

The event was rounded out with Valentine and classical music by local pianists, warm food by Crystal Falls, and door prizes awarded to attendees from locally donated items.

The Wolf River Art League is non-profit that relies on volunteers and donations to make this event happen. The annual Mid-Winter Art Show raises funds to award art scholarships for two graduating seniors advancing in the arts.

Look for more murals being painted this spring and summer, the first to honor veterans, at Taft Park on the Waterfront Bar building.
