Event to raise funds for park

By Holly Neumann

The fourth annual Freedom Park Pig Roast and Car Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Manawa Area Veterans Freedom Park.

“I think this is a special event,” organizer Deb Sarna said. “Not only are we having a car show, but you get to have some fantastic pulled pork and all the fixings.”

Registration for cars will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. There is a $5 fee for each car.

“This is a chance for a local car enthusiasts to brag up their machines,” Sarna said.

Judging will end at 1 p.m. and awards will be presented at 2 p.m. The pig roast will begin at 10 a.m. and meals are available for $10.

All proceeds will benefit the park, according to Sarna.

“I think the park actually puts Manawa on the map, especially now that we have the splash pad, which families from surrounding counties have been enjoying,” she said. “Almost every single person in this community has in some way had a part of making this memorial and park a reality. It’s a place where veterans can be remembered and honored.”

The park, located at 176 Beach St., should be completed by the end of this year or early 2022, Sarna said.
