Five teams compete in New London

Hortonville runs away with boys’ title

Take a look at the results from the Bulldog Invitational and it’s easy to see how the Hortonville boys’ cross country team cruised to a championship.

The Polar Bears placed four runners in the top six and two more in the top 12 at the meet, held Sept. 18 at New London’s Hatten Park.

Bulldog Invitational

Team scores for the boys were Hortonville (19), Ashwaubenon (83), Weyauwega-Fremont (102), D.C. Everest (104), Bonduel (119), New London (129) and Manawa (131). Appleton West, Assumption, Clintonville, Menasha and NEWCHAA had incomplete teams.

Ashwaubenon won the girls’ championship with 54 points, followed by Appleton West (74), Hortonville (105), New London and Assumption (115), Weyauwega-Fremont (116), D.C. Everest (154), Bonduel (157) and NEWCHAA (266). Clintonville, Manawa, Marion and Shiocton had incomplete teams.

Hortonville’s finishers included Aidan Paschke (first, 16:48.4); Noah Reynolds (second, 17:51.3); Darin Horneck (fifth, 18:08.4); Sam McKee (sixth, 18:25.6); Sawyer Caves (11th, 18:45.5); Grant Harris (12th, 18:54.7); and Alex Ratchman (21st, 19:21.2).

Joshua Wilson placed fourth for Clintonville in 18:00, while other places and times for the Truckers included Cody Carrico (34th, 20:21.4); Mason Carrico (36th, 20:27.3); and Gabe Polzin (40th, 21:23.4).

Weyauwega-Fremont’s finishers included Jaden Rice (13th, 18:55.8); Isiah Schuh (18th, 19:16.3); Josh Halat (25th, 19:45.3); Doc Harley (39th, 21:06.3); Luke Ehrenberg (47th, 22:05.6); and Seth Malueg (51st, 24:14.5).

New London’s finishers included Chase Osborn (14th, 18:56.8); Luke Heideman (31st, 20:09.9); Matthew Kurszewski (37th, 20:35.3); Jed Guerin (43rd, 21:51.9); and Kyle Radmer (49th, 22:12.2).

Manawa’s times and places included Ricky Pingel (26th, 19:49.8); Matthew Thoma (28th, 19:50.6); Zachary Schertz (29th, 19:57.9); Noah Bortle (42nd, 21:24.5); and Angelo Wiesner (53rd, 28:43.9).

On the girls’ side, Weyauwega-Fremont had a pair of top-10 finishes from Abby Bartel (first, 19:32) and Melanie Jentsch (ninth, 21:25.4). Other finishes and times for the Warhawks included Madison Hansen (21st, 22:18.3); Lauren Feltz (47th, 23:51.1); Emma Ziepke (52nd, 24:24.6); Morgan Hansen (56th, 25:08/9); Ava Loehrke (63rd, 28:07.2); and Alexa Lederhaus (71st. 31:30.3).

Macy Reybrock placed fourth in 20:16.1 to lead New London, followed by teammates Elsie Abba (28th, 22:35.3); Jane Johnston (29th, 22:36.1); Edyn Horn (30th, 22:37.9); Allyson Recla (32nd, 22:47.5); Rianna Schultz (44th, 23:43); and Halia Sternhagen (23:46.1).

Hortonville’s finishers included Paige Morrell (13th, 21:33.2); Maleiyah Streck (19th, 22:02); Megan Ross (20th, 22:10.1); Celia Olson (27th, 22:35); and Katelyn Krause (37th, 23:08.9).

Places and times for Manawa included Makenzie Jo Krueger (33rd, 22:51.4); Jolie Jaeger (38th, 23:18.5); Alecia Weber (55th, 24:54.6); and Daisy Krueger (62nd, 27:44.6).

Clintonville’s only runner, Jasmine Wilson, placed 50th in 24:07.1.

Smiley Invitational

Iola-Scandinavia’s Charlie Vater turned in the fastest time in the Division 2-3 boys’ race Sept. 18 at the Smiley Invitational, a meet featuring more than 60 teams at Wausau East High School.

Vater crossed the finish line in 16:57 and helped the Thunderbirds place sixth in the Division 3 team standings with 121 points behind Pacelli (63), Auburndale (69), Albany (71), Marathon (80) and Rosholt (113) and ahead of Rib Lake (148).

Other finishers for the T-Birds included Jacob Lashua (18th, 18:54.1); Ian Koss (33rd, 19:47.9); Samuel Groeschl (46th, 20:36); and Aaron Jones (57th, 22:47.5).

The Iola-Scandinavia girls did not field a complete team. Runners for the T-Birds included Tara Thompson (28th, 25:19.9); Chloe Timdal (31st, 25:28.5); Grace Betker (32nd, 25:30.1); and Kelly Jones (49th, 28:39.8).

Albany won the Division 3 championship with 21 points, followed by Marathon (36), Edgar (89), Rib Lake (121), Spencer (138) and Neillsville (144).

Ripon KJG Invitational

Waupaca sent six runners – three boys and three girls – to Ripon’s Barlow Park Sept. 18.

Places and times for the Waupaca boys included Ian Sherman (55th, 20:12.5); Mark Reinke (77th, 23:25); and Gage Anderson (82nd, 25:54,7).

Places and times for the girls included Sienna Timm (23rd, 21:55.7); Cecelia Harms (42nd, 23:19.6); and Leota Studzinski (64th, 25:54.3).
