Irish Wake returns to Waupaca

Ceili dancing at Danes Hall, live music at Fat Gretchen’s

Waupaca’s Irish Wake is back and will feature two live music venues and a traditional Irish Dance at Danes Hall on St. Patrick’s Day night.

Festivities with a traditional Irish food and drink, and live music from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Little Fat Gretchen’s, 108 S. Main St..

The Calathumpians will reel out authentic Irish tunes while Little Fat Gretchen’s stays open late for dinner and drinks.

Then, the party moves down the street to the Danes Hall, 301 N. Main, with Flip O’ the Coin on stage in the Grand Ballroom.

Flip O’ the Coin will perform authentic Irish dance music from 6:30-10 p.m. Guests can learn how to do an Irish Ceili dance.

Bar service will be available in the ballroom, and the event has booked the Granite Cellar at Danes Hall for Irish Wake attendees only.

The Irish Wake’s traditional Honor Roll Book will be at both Little Fat Gretchen’s and Danes Hall for attendees to honor anyone they’ve lost this past year.

“Because the pandemic prevented us from having the Irish Wake these past two years, the Arts Board decided to change it up this year,” said Waupaca Community Arts Board President Marci Reynolds. “By adding a community dance at the Danes Hall and partnering with such a wonderful venue in our community, we know this year’s wake will be something special.”

For both venues, a vaccine card or negative Covid test within past 24 hours will be required for admittance.

Admittance to the Danes Hall Dance is $10.

This year’s event is co-hosted by Waupaca Community Arts Board and Danes Hall.
