Two wins.

That’s what the Weyauwega-Fremont volleyball team needed to make the program’s first trip to state since winning the WIAA Division 3 state championship in 2005.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood had other ideas, however, as the Chargers ended the Warhawks’ season Oct. 27 by sweeping all three games of a Division 3 sectional semifinal in Wittenberg.

It was the second time the teams had met in October, as the Chargers wrapped up their fourth straight Central Wisconsin Conference-East championship Oct. 11 by taking three of four sets in Weyauwega.

The rematch wasn’t as close, as Wittenberg-Birnamwood opened the match with a 25-17 lead, went up 2-0 with a 25-12 win and completed the sweep by outscoring the Warhawks 25-17.
