New facility at Wisconsin Veterans Home

The Wisconsin Veterans Home in King has opened its new skilled nursing facility.

With a capacity of 192 beds, John R. Moses Hall is designed in the neighborhood style, which provides a home-like environment.

Small numbers of rooms are grouped into individual households, each with its own kitchen, dining room, screened porch and dedicated living room.

The facility also features a physical therapy suite, private rooms, a barber/beauty shop, views of Rainbow Lake, and outdoor spaces.

“For generations, King has served as a place of community and pride for those who live and work here,” said Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Mary Kolar.

“It will stand as a testament to John Moses, a man who cared deeply about King being a welcoming place for those who served.,” Kolar said. “It is also stands as a legacy for the fantastic staff at King who have worked so hard to open this modern facility, a wonderful addition to an already beautiful campus. This hall is an investment, offering the care and comfort owed to our nation’s heroes today.”

Legacy of caring for veterans

The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King has been caring for veterans and their loved ones for more than 130 years on a 325-acre campus on Rainbow Lake, one mile southwest of the city of Waupaca.

The campus was founded in 1887 by the Grand Army of the Republic, a Civil War Veterans organization.
The new hall is named for former Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary John R. Moses, a World War II veteran who served as secretary from 1962 to 1982.

Over the next several weeks, residents will be relocated from Olson Hall to Moses Hall. When that movement is complete, the state will transfer the Olson Hall skilled nursing license to Moses Hall.

Moses Hall, like all Wisconsin’s veterans homes, is certified for Medicaid and Medicare Parts A and B.

This is the first new building at the WVH since Ainsworth Hall opened in 1993.

According to the WDVA, the new facility cost $80 million.
