Ellen Nelson, age 93 of Waupaca, WI passed away on April 11, 2023 at Bethany Home.
Ellen was born on May 13, 1929; daughter of the late Paul and Minnie (Eastman) Collopy in Hawarden, IA. Her family moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa where she graduated from Eagle Grove High School. Ellen went on to earn her Nursing degree and worked as an RN in Colorado. On June 27, 1954 Ellen married Dr. Robert (Knobby) Nelson in Eagle Grove, IA. They moved to Glendale, WI to raise their family. They moved back to Waupaca, WI to enjoy their retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca.
Ellen enjoyed arts and crafts, bird watching, choir, volunteering with numerous church and community organizations. She loved making strawberry jam with her grandchildren. Ellen was an avid reader and enjoyed playing card games and entertaining family and friends. Ellen followed her mom’s love of baking.
Ellen is survived by her sons, Kip (Nancy) Nelson; Kurt Nelson; daughter-in-law, Karen Nelson; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Ellen is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Nelson, son, James Nelson and daughter-in-law, Lynn Nelson.
A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, WI, followed by burial at Lakeside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 206 E Badger St, Waupaca, WI 54981.
