Waupaca woman wins sewing machine in national contest

Lynn Michael says she never won a contest before.

On Wednesday, Jan. 12, she was awarded a Husqvarna Viking Designer Ruby sewing and embroidery machine and software worth more than $8,000.

Michael entered the national contest at Sew ‘N Sew, 112 S. Main St. She and other contestants spent a few minutes at a hands-on demonstration of the new Designer Ruby machine, using its touch screen to scale, mirror, duplicate and rotate custom designs.

“Lynne was one of our very first customers at Sew ‘N Sew when we opened in 1997, and remains a dedicated member of our sewing and quilting community,” said the store’s owner, Bonnie Welsch.

Michael, a longtime music teacher in Waupaca, makes quilts for her family and was among the first Sew ‘N Sew customers to enter the Designer Ruby demo contest. She is the only person to win and receive a free machine.
