Soccer team beats Omro in shootout

The Clintonville’s girls varsity soccer team honored its graduating seniors last Thursday by winning its last regular-season game against visiting Omro in the most exciting fashion. The Lady Truckers opened the scoring at the 8:10 mark in the first half with a goal by Senior Nichole Paisar. Junior Forward Paige Lehman found Paisar with an excellent crossing pass, and Paisar notched her seventh goal of the season.

Freshman Forward Katie Collier pushed the Truckers advantage to 2-0 with a nifty scoop shot over the out-stretched arms of the Omro Keeper. Omro rallied in the second half to tie the score 2-2 at the end of regulation time. Neither team could score in the two overtime periods, and the referees called for a shootout to decide the contest.

The five Clintonville shooters scored three times against the Omro goalie, while Clintonville Keeper Cassi Schultz allowed only two tallies. Clintonville scorers in the shoot-out included Nichole Paisar, Hattie Rhode, and the clincher by senior Steph Klegin. The Truckers now advance to the WIAA state tournament, which kicks off against Northland Pines.

“I am very proud of this team and thrilled that the play of our four seniors was the biggest reason for the victory,” said Coach Roger Lupien. “Paisar, Klegin and Schultz have been major contributors over the last two seasons, and today’s recognition of their efforts is well-founded. We’ll see if this level of excitement carries over to the Regional.”
