Iditarod dog sled race presentation Nov. 13

The Iditarod dog sled race will be the focus of a presentation at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Sturm Memorial Library in Manawa.

Iditarod “Teacher on the Trail” Linda Fenton will speak about her experience with the famous dog sledding race held annually in Alaska.

Fenton, who has used the Iditarod in her classroom for over a decade, was chosen to be the 15th “Teacher on the Trail” after going through a lengthy application process.

She was flown by the Iditarod Air Force to the different checkpoints along the race route and was able to gain considerable knowledge and experience about the race to add to her classroom lesson plans. Fenton then taught students from all over the world via Skype while she was in on the trail.

The Nov. 13 presentation will include photographs she took of the dogs, sleds and racers, and she will talk about her experiences at the different checkpoints.

This program will be interesting to adults and students in grades 3 and up.
