Iola-Scandinavia cruised to a 49-11 nonconference girls’ basketball win over Tigerton Dec. 27.
The Thunderbirds outscored the Tigers 11-4 in the first quarter and 20-0 over the next eight minutes to take a 31-4 lead into the locker room at halftime.
I-S also had a 9-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter and outscored the visitors 9-5 in the final period.
Turnovers hurt the Tigers, as they had 44 in the game, compared to 14 for the T-Birds. The T-Birds also had 30 more shots in the game and had 22 steals.
Leighten Fischer had 15 points, five rebounds and three steals for the T-Birds, while Brooke Phillips added eight points, six steals and three assists. Natalie Gauerke finished with four steals.
The T-Birds will return to Central Wisconsin 8 Conference play Friday, Jan. 10, at home against Amherst. I-S will travel to Manawa Tuesday, Jan. 14, before returning home to host Weyauwega-Fremont Friday, Jan. 17. Tipoff for all three games is set for 7:30 p.m.
