Waupaca library screens Oscar-winning performance

The Waupaca Area Public Library will continue its First Thursday Film Series with Dr. Jack Rhodes at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3.

Free popcorn and theater treats will be provided.

The April movie concerns an elderly woman who longs to leave her difficult living situation in 1940s Houston and return to the hometown of her childhood. When an opportunity presents itself, she runs away from her son and daughter-in-law and escapes on a Greyhound bus.

The rest of the movie concerns her adventures along the way as she tries to reconnect with a happier past.

Geraldine Page won the Academy Award for Best Actress in this 1985 film directed by Peter Masterson and shot on location in Texas. The movie also stars John Heard and Rebecca De Mornay and is based on a play by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Horton Foote.
