The Iola-Scandinavia varsity football team suffered a 34-14 loss to Amherst on Friday, Oct. 17, at Thunderbird Field in Scandinavia.
The T-Birds opened up the scoring early in the 1st quarter when Kristian Welch ran into the end zone with 7:01 left in the first quarter. Tanner Krusa kicked the extra point, giving the T-birds a 7-0 lead.
With 26.8 seconds left in the quarter, Connor Zblewski scored for the Falcons. The PAT failed and the quarter ended with the T-birds up 7-6.
Joshua Cisewki found the end zone early in the 2nd quarter, giving the Falcons a 14-7 lead.
Connor Zblewski followed suit and scored again for the Falcons putting them up 20-7.
With the T-Bird unable to move the ball, the Falcons once again took over possession and with 13.9 seconds left on the clock Davis Cowden scored, giving the Falcons a 28-7 lead at the half.
Garret Groshek opened up the scoring in the second half of the game, raising the score to 34-7 for the Falcons.
Amherst once again took possession of the ball when I-S quarterback Holdyn Mast had a pass intercepted by Amaziah McCall.
I-S was able to hold Amherst at the 30 yard line, forcing them to punt the ball away.
With 1:34 seconds left on the clock Mast found the end zone for the T-Birds, with Krusa kicking the extra point.
The Falcons took a knee for the remainder of the game, ending with a final score of 34-14.
