Silver Lake Lanes in Scandinavia will host Valentine’s Day 8-Pin Tap Tournament from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14.

The cost is $20 per person, with 100 percent donated toward a defibrillator.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will help purchase a defibrillator to keep at Silver Lake Lanes.

“It is good to have a defibrillator around wherever there are people,” said Scandinavia Fire Chief Dell Mork. “It doesn’t take a lot of training to know how to use them.”

The town and village of Scandinavia are serviced by the Iola Ambulance Service, based at the Iola Fire Station.

“Early defibrillation increases the chance of survival. Every minute counts,” said Carrie Snyder, ambulance director. “The more AED’s present in the communities, the greater likelihood they will be used in time. It is recommended that AED’s be placed in public areas for immediate access.”

According to Snyder, the state and federal “Good Samaritan” law covers users who in good faith attempt to save a person’s life.
