Track regionals set for May 23

Waupaca to host D2 competition

Waupaca will host a WIAA track regional Monday, May 23, while the area’s other 10 other teams will hit the road that same day.

Here’s a rundown on where local teams will begin qualifying for the State Track & Field Meet, set for Friday and Saturday, June 3-4, at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse:

Division 1
Hortonville and New London will head to the Kimberly Regional, which gets underway at 3:30 p.m. Teams from Appleton East, Appleton North, Appleton West, De Pere, Kaukauna, Kimberly and West De Pere will also compete. Sectional qualifiers will advance to the Bay Port Sectional, set for Thursday, May 26, at Bay Port High School in Howard with qualifiers from the Preble Regional.

Division 2
Waupaca will host Amherst, Berlin, Fox Valley Lutheran, Nekoosa, Omro, Wautoma, Winneconne and Xavier at 4 p.m. Sectional qualifiers will then head to the Little Chute Sectional May 26 with qualifiers from the Two Rivers, Freedom and Valders regionals. Clintonville will compete with Bonduel, Freedom, Little Chute, Marinette, Oconto, Oconto Falls, Peshtigo and Seymour at the Freedom Regional, which begins at 3 p.m.

Division 3
Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa and Marion will join Gresham/Bowler, Menominee Indian, Oneida Nation, Shiocton, Tigerton and Wolf River Lutheran at the Menominee Indian Regional in Keshena, which begins at 3:30 p.m. Weyauwega-Fremont, which is dropping down this year from Division 2, Wild Rose and Almond-Bancroft will compete at the Tri-County Regional in Plainfield with Assumption, Pacelli, Port Edwards, Rosholt, St. Mary Catholic and Tri-County. Events will start at 3:30 p.m. Sectional qualifiers from both regionals will join qualifiers from the Marathon and Suring regionals at the Rosholt Sectional.
