Domestic abuse charges filed

A Weyauwega woman is accused of choking her mother.

Somantha D. Shanklin, 23, is charged with felony strangulation, felony intimidation of a victim with use of force and disorderly conduct.

At 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, Waupaca County Deputy Chad Repinski was called out to a home on Little River Road, Weyauwega.

According to the criminal complaint, Shanklin and her mother gave a ride to their home to a man her mother knew years ago. He was allegedly intoxicated and threatened them.

Repinski escorted the man out of the house and drove him to his residence at the Waupaca Hotel on Union Street.

About an hour later, Repinski was dispatched to the home again after Shanklin’s mother called 911 and reported Shanklin had choked her.

When Repinski arrived the second time, he found Shanklin outdoors smoking a cigarette. She reportedly said she was mad at her mother for not calling 911 earlier when the intoxicated man threatened them.

Repinski went inside the house and found the mother with two bleeding gouge marks in her neck.

The mother told Repinski that Shanklin was angry because she had not called 911, so she began throwing things around the house, the complaint says.

When the mother walked away, Shanklin allegedly followed her into the kitchen and began choking her. Then the mother attempted to call 911, and Shanklin then threw the cellphones and attacked her again, the complaint says.

Shanklin registered a .23 blood-alcohol content on a preliminary breath test. The mother tested .077 BAC, according to police.
