Waupaca High School’s dance team has won 11 state championships since 2008.
The 18-member squad has an opportunity to add to that total Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches’ state competition in La Crosse.
The team won the Division 3 Pom competition for the fourth time in a row last year and also finished second in Division 2 Jazz. It placed first in both events Jan. 28 at a regional competition at Kimberly High School.
Amy Marcom coaches the team, which includes seniors Grace Koch, Mackenzie Morey and Hannah Nasberg; juniors Sydney Erspamer, Katie Schmidt, Bella Udoni and Hanna Waller; sophomores Eryn Butzin, Madie Gile, Allison Hansen, Sydney Hansen, Shyla Koshollek, Kalista Revai, Eliana Stanchik and Maggie Stratton; and freshmen Alissa Reetz, Gabrielle Sullivan and Olivia Wachsmuth.
The La Crosse Center will host this year’s state competition. The team is scheduled to perform its Pom routine at 6:50 p.m. and its Jazz routine at 8:26 p.m.
The team won both events in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Besides last year’s Pom championship, other state titles came in Jazz in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and Pom in 2010.
