Convict charged with fleeing

A month after he was placed on probation, a man crashed his motorcycle during a police chase.

Payton B. Meloy, 26, Clintonville is charged with fleeing an officer.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, Clintonville Police Officer Craig Kamke reported seeing Meloy driving a motorcycle at a high rate of speed.

According to the criminal complaint, Meloy ran several stop signs and did not stop after Kamke activated his emergency lights and siren.

He crashed his bike and was allegedy trying to push it away when Kamke ordered him to stop and lay it down.

On Aug. 1, Judge Vicki Clussman imposed and stayed three years in prison and placed him on four years of probation after Meloy was convicted of burglary, possession of methamphetamine and felony bail jumping.

As a condition of probation, she also stayed a sentence of six months in jail to be used at the discretion of Meloy’s Department of Corrections agent.

On Sept. 5, Clussman set a $1,000 cash bond as a condition of Meloy’s release from custody.

On Sept. 7, the DOC amended the conditions of Meloy’s probation to include three months in jail.
