Comets drop 5 games

Smidt hits seven threes

The North Eastern Conference has not been kind to the Waupaca girls’ basketball team this season.

The Comets wrapped up the regular season with conference losses to Luxemburg-Casco, Wrightstown, Marinette, Denmark and Freedom.

Lux.-Casco 87, Waupaca 40
Cassie Schiltz scored 30 points to lead the Spartans over the Comets Feb. 15.

Seattle Lettau and Madi Wennesberg scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, for Waupaca.

Wrightstown 55, Waupaca 19
Waupaca trailed 23-13 at halftime, but the Tigers scored the first 30 points of the second half while holding the Comets to six.

Wrightstown clinched the conference championship with the win.

Lettau led Waupaca with seven points, while Kailee Van Zeeland led Wrightstown with 18.

 

Marinette 55, Waupaca 53
Emma Smidt scored a team-high 29 points and made seven three-pointers, but the Comets came up two points short on the Marines’ home court Feb. 10.

Marinette led 26-23 at halftime, but the Comets had a 30-29 advantage over the next 18 minutes.

Savannah Wehmeyer and Lettau added 11 and nine points, respectively.

Denmark 46, Waupaca 25
The Vikings held the Comets to eight points in the second half Feb. 8.

Smidt led Waupaca with 10 points.

Freedom 69, Waupaca 28
The Irish outscored the Comets 35-11 in the first half and 34-17 in the second Feb. 6.

Lettau led Waupaca with 11 points.
