Boys win cross country titles

New London, Hortonville place first

New London and Hortonville won boys’ cross country championships Oct. 17 at their respective conference meets.

Max Krause’s second-place finish at the Bay Conference meet at High Cliff Golf Course to lead New London, while Hortonville’s Jake Krause placed first for the Polar Bears at the Fox Valley Association meet at Winagamie Golf Course.

Bay Conference meet

New London used four top-10 finishes to win the boys’ title with 38 points. Other team scores included Shawano (54), Seymour (76), Xavier (121), Menasha (132), West De Pere (154), Green Bay West (173) and Green Bay East (185).

Krause finished behind Shawano’s Demetrius Koquatosh in 16:27.4. Other places and times for the Bulldogs were Kaden Reybrock (fourth, 16:33.3); Riley Titterton (eighth, 16:51.2); Jeff Smolinski (10th, 17:01.5); Mac Voight (14th, 17:23); Logan Horn (19th, 17:37.4); Keagan Reybrock (20th, 17:41.7); and Logan Heimbruch (25th, 17:48.7).

Anna Dreas’ fourth-place finish helped the Bulldogs place third in the girls’ standings. Xavier had the top three finishers and won the championship with 27 points, followed by Shawano (54), New London (56) Seymour (132), West De Pere (133), Menasha (143) and Green Bay East (163).

New London’s finishers included Dreas (fourth, 19:53.1); Jessica Duch (12th, 21:22.5); Lindsey Spoehr (13th, 21:28.7); Halia Sternhagen (15th, 21:39); Jane Johnston (16th, 21:40.4); Sarah Watling (18th, 21:41.2); and Piper Campbell (34th, 23:36.1).

Fox Valley Association meet

The Polar Bears had three runners in the top 10 in the boys’ race.

Krause crossed the finish line in 15:38.1, nearly 15 seconds ahead of runner-up Nolan Richey of Kimberly. Hortonville’s other runners included Charlie Wirth (fifth, 16:21.5); Logan McGrath (seventh, 16:35.2); Adam Escudero (15th, 17:14.9); Aidan Paschke (22nd, 17:21.5); Noah Reynolds (27th, 17:36.3); and Darin Horneck (29th, 17:39.2).

Team scores were Hortonville (50), Kimberly (63), Appleton North (86), Appleton East (120), Neenah (133), Kaukauna (150), Oshkosh North (152), Fond du Lac (176), Oshkosh West (191) and Appleton West (273).

Hortonville placed seventh in the girls’ competition.

Places and times for the Polar Bears included Paige Morrell (28th, 21:13.9); Chloe Byom (31st, 21:22.1); Celia Olson (32nd, 21:24.1); Caitlin Niemann (35th, 21:30); Ellie Borgen (38th, 21:30.9); Kelsyn Femrite (42nd, 21:42.8); and Myla Riehl (50th, 22:03.7).

Appleton North and Kaukauna tied for the championship with 51 points. Other team scores included Kimberly (63), Fond du Lac (110), Oshkosh West (149), Neenah (152), Hortonville (164), Appleton West (238), Oshkosh West (245) and Appleton East (286).

New London and Hortonville will compete in WIAA sectional meets Saturday, Oct. 26. The Bulldogs will head to Tomahawk’s Edgewater Country Club for a Division 2 sectional, while Hortonville will travel to Standing Rocks County Park near Amherst for a Division 1 meet.
