WAUPACA – There are ten new automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) placed around Waupaca. The idea is that early CPR and AED increases the chance of survival during a heart attack, therefore, having some AEDs handy might save some lives.
That’s the plan with a collaboration between Gold Cross Ambulance’s HeartStart Foundation, the Rotary Club of Waupaca and UW-Oshkosh student nurses who identified spots around the community where AEDs could be placed.
The AEDs are located at Clearwater Harbor, Wheelhouse Restaurant, The Woods Restaurant, Rustic Woods Campground, H.H. Hinder Brewing Co., Waupaca’s city hall, Empty Barrel Distillery, Simpson’s Restaurant, Schueller’s Great Exspechtations Restaurant and Piggly Wiggly
Heart attack is the leading cause of death in the Fox Valley region, and in the United States. In Gold Cross’s service area of northeastern Wisconsin, more than 62% of people will have an AED applied prior to EMS arrival. Gold Cross Ambulance and its HeartStart Foundation are committed to expanding access to AEDs in rural areas like Waupaca—where emergency response times can be longer and devices like these can make the difference between life and death.
