Elementary school associate principal resigns

Posted

CLINTONVILLE – One week prior to the start of students coming back to school for a new school year, the Clintonville School Board approved the resignation of Matthew Hanson from his elementary associate principal position at Clintonville Elementary School.

The board approved the resignation at its Aug. 24 meeting. The approval of the resignation was also subject to the breach of contract terms stated in his contract.

Clintonville Superintendent Troy Kuhn told the board that Hanson’s resignation letter stated he was resigning as of Sept. 2, but Hanson’s last day with the district was Aug. 21. The resignation approval by the board stipulated that Hanson be paid only through Aug. 21. Kuhn told the Clintonville Tribune-Gazette that Hanson left the district to be closer to home.

The resignation is the second resignation of a principal position at Clintonville Elementary School. Effective June 30, Madalyn Simonis had resigned from her position as principal at Clintonville Elementary School to take a similar position in the School District of New London.

With both the principal and associate principal resigning, board member Christopher Hoffmann said he hoped the progress that has been made regarding bullying in the elementary school would continue with new personnel in those positions this school year.

Clintonville Superintendent Troy Kuhn said he agreed and has already taken steps to ensure that progress continues.

“He is leaving some big shoes to fill,” said Board Clerk Laurie Vollrath. “I know he had a great relationship with a lot of kids and staff. I’m sad to see him go, but I get it.”
