IOLA – The historic Iola Mills continues to emerge as a community arts and entertainment destination this summer, even as plans for a recording studio have been paused due to village ordinances.
The Iola Mills property, which includes a restored grist and sawmill now used as a museum and performance space, reopened for the 2026 season on May 1.
The business recently completed roof restoration work on four buildings including the Stone Engine House, which is now available for private event rentals and will host the annual Oktoberfest celebration
While renovation of a planned recording studio has been halted, the site continues to host concerts, artist residencies and community events throughout the summer. Through the Iola Mills artist-in-residence program, songwriters spend a week at the mill working on their craft and at the end of their stay they will perform a free public concert.
Some of the upcoming artist in residence performances include Will Keizer on May 23, Edward David Anderson on June 13, Bruce Humphries on July 11, Steph Warren on July 25 and Jesus Villa on August 23, all at 6 p.m. Live performances are scheduled for select Saturdays through August.
Social dancing classes with instructor Ballroom Bob are set for 6 p.m. on June 19, July 3 and August 14, with a $5 suggested donation.
This summer’s programming highlights include Songwriters Circle, held Sundays at noon, and community singing at 1 p.m. The second annual Songfest will also return from July 17-19, which will showcase more than 20 songwriters performing original music. Iola Mills will also host the Snapping Turtle Adventure Triathlon on Sept. 12, featuring a two-mile trail run, a seven-mile bike ride, and a two-mile paddle.
