FREMONT – Following recent record flooding, the public beach at Partridge Lake is temporarily closed as officials assess the damage and clear debris, though they hope to reopen the area by Memorial Day weekend.
The beach, located in Partridge Lake Park on Wolf River Drive about a mile west of the downtown area, is currently taped off from the public. Parts of the dock remained partially submerged last week, with the structure appearing to be detached and structurally compromised by the high water levels. The surrounding area was still littered with logs and other storm debris carried there during the flooding.
Trustee Steven Van Lyssel said the village is still surveying the extent of the flood damage, which may include the loss of the beach’s dock, which will need to be repaired or replaced once fully assessed. He said crews are currently prioritizing the assessment and repair of local boat landings before focusing their efforts on the beach.
Because the evaluations are still in the preliminary stages, Van Lyssel said there is currently no cost estimate available for the damages.
The park’s seasonal restrooms have already been opened for the season. Though the beach is currently closed, Van Lyssel noted the situation is not far off from a normal year, as the beach typically does not officially open until Memorial Day weekend anyway.
