Shutout by Spees saves Stevens Point

Posted

In a tightly contested matchup, the Stevens Point Panthers secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Wausau West Warriors.

The win pushes the Panthers season record to 12-3-1, while the Warriors fall to 6-5-3 after a grueling defensive battle that came down to a single play.

From the opening whistle, both defenses put the clamps on limiting clean looks and forcing contested possessions. Wausau West’s defensive unit put up a wall, but Stevens Point’s attack finally found a breakthrough.

Isabelle Stevens provided the game’s defining moment, capitalizing on her lone shot of the match to bury the ball into the back of the net. The unassisted goal proved to be all the Panthers would need to secure the victory.

While Stevens provided the offensive spark, junior goalkeeper Campbell Spees anchored the victory from the back. Wausau West mounted several counter-attacks and generating chances to equalize.

Spees was perfect on the night, turning away all five shots on goal she faced over 80 minutes of play to earn a clean sheet.

Stevens Point controlled much of the offensive tempo, outshooting Wausau West 14 to 7 overall. Amelia Castleberg was a constant threat for the Panthers, leading the team with five shots, four on goal, while senior Catalina Leon added three shots to keep the Warriors’ backline under constant pressure.

With the postseason looming, Stevens Point carries momentum forward, while Wausau West will look to bounce back and find more offensive rhythm in their next outing.
