T-birds volleyball takes down Warhawks in five sets

Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks traveled to take on the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds in a local volleyball showdown on Sep.23

The Thunderbirds got up on the Warhawks in the opening set by a score of 15-8. It became a 21-11 after a spike by the Warhawks went out of bounds. A kill by Avah Weinreis made the final score of the set 25-16.

In the second set, it was a back-and-forth matchup throughout at the Warhawks took a 19-18 lead late in the set. The Warhawks pulled away, winning 25-20.

Warhawks got off to another quick start in the third set and defeated the Thunderbirds 25-18.

With their backs against the wall in the fourth set, the Thunderbirds took a lead and didn’t relinquish it, as they won by a score of 25-19 after a Weinreis kill.

In the fifth and final set, the Warhawks took a 10-4 lead, but the Thunderbirds came storming back to go on an 11-1 run to win the set 15-11 and take the match.
