ThedaCare to close Weyauwega clinic

Posted

WEYAUWEGA – ThedaCare Physicians-Weyauwega at 206 S. Mill St. will permanently close later this year, the healthcare provider recently announced.
ThedaCare said in a statement that it is committed to meeting community needs through accessible, high-quality care and regularly evaluates its services to adapt to changing needs.

“We are working closely with our patients to identify providers for their care at clinics that best meet their needs, as ThedaCare Physicians-Weyauwega will be closing effective June 30, 2026,” said Dr. Kori Krueger, ThedaCare senior vice president and president of the North Region Physician Group.

The ThedaCare website lists Cara Benner, an advanced practice registered nurse, and Kathryn Hanson, a family nurse practitioner, as providers at the Weyauwega clinic. ThedaCare said employees at that location will be reassigned to other ThedaCare sites.

“Our team members are the heart of our mission, and we greatly value the care team in Weyauwega,” Krueger said. “We are working with the clinicians to identify other site opportunities where they will be serving patients, with the goal of retaining all team members, other than one who is retiring.”

A spokesperson for ThedaCare declined to confirm which clinician is retiring, citing privacy and respect for team members.

Community members reacted on a public social media post to the clinic’s upcoming closure.

“Honestly, this is a great loss for the older people who live in Weyauwega that depend on the clinic,” Joan Schumacher said.

Wisconsin “is joining so many other states in being a medical desert,” Pat Brandt said.

“This is very unfortunate because I just got new insurance and I just made my first appointment for next week,” Katie Mengedoht added.

The closure comes about a year after ThedaCare discontinued labor and delivery services at its Waupaca location.

ThedaCare said it will continue providing care to patients in the area at nearby clinics in Waupaca, New London and Manawa.
