IOLA- Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds hosted the second ranked team in division 4, Pittsville on May 1 in a non-conference matchup.
Pittsville took a 2-0 lead on a two-run double in the top of the first inning to get an early advantage.
Iola got on the board as Jameson Heschke doubled on a line drive as Mason Mofrey scored to cut Pittsville’s lead to 2-1.
At the end of the third inning it would be a tied game as Mason Kreisel scored on a Pittsville error.
Pittsville took back the lead in the top of the fourth inning as a fly out made the score 3-2.
The flood gates would open in the bottom of the fourth inning for the Thunderbirds, as a wild pitch brought Heschke in to score, and a single by Broghan Gullixon drove in a run on a hard ground ball to score to give his team the lead.
Wyatt Wolberg doubled to drive in another run, and two more runners would reach home on an error to give Iola a 7-3 lead at the end of the fourth.
Pittsville scored a run on a double to make the score 7-4.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, A score on a passed ball and a two-run double by Morfey made the score 10-4.
A bases loaded walk made the score 11-4, a two-run single by Chase Timdal, and a one run single made the score 14-4 ending the game before the seventh inning due to the 10-run rule.
Wolberg had a standout performance with three RBI’s and two runs for the Thunderbirds.
