The Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks won three-out-of-four sets on Tuesday, Sept. 10, going to 3-1 on the season, as they defeated the Menominee Indian Eagles.
In the opening set, the Warhawks built a 12-10 lead as Cathryn Gunst scored on a kill to give her team early momentum.
The Warhawks went on a 10-3 run to take a 22-13 advantage. The Eagles started a comeback as they pulled within one before Olivia Witkowski delivered the final point of the set to give the Warhawks the 25-23 win.
Early in the second set, the Warhawks took a lead at 14-11. The Eagles started to gain the lead as they went up 19-18. The Eagles closed out the set 26-24 and tied the match 1-1.
In the third set, the Warhawks jumped up 15-7 on the Eagles and stayed on the offensive by winning 25-17.
Serving by Riley Delwiche contributed to an early 5-0 lead in the fourth set for the Warhawks as she delivered an ace to cap off the early scoring run.
The Eagles got back into the set as they took a 17-16 lead. The Warhawks went on a 9-2 run with a block by Witkowski, finishing off the Eagles 25-19 and giving her team the win in four sets.
