A strong all-around performance on Jan. 15 propelled the Waupaca Comets girls to a convincing 70–35 victory, combining balanced scoring with relentless defensive pressure to control the game from start to finish against the Clintonville Truckers.
The Comets were led by Hailey Bechard, who poured in a game-high 24 points, knocking down 10 field goals and adding six steals on the defensive end.
Waupaca’s Taylor Kling delivered an efficient scoring night with 14 points, hitting four three-pointers and dishing out nine assists. Ava Widdel dominated the glass, finishing with 15 rebounds to go along with eight points and four assists.
The Truckers struggled to find consistency offensively, shooting just 27.8% from the field and 15.4% from three-point range. Abby Tate led her team with eight points and five assists, while Kara Danforth added seven points and three steals. Despite a strong rebounding effort led by Zoey Ferg’s nine boards, offensive execution remained a challenge.
In the end, defensive intensity, ball movement, and scoring depth proved to be the difference, as Waupaca improved their record to 6-6, and Clintonville fell to 3-10 on the season.
