Weyauwega-Fremont election preview

Posted

WEYAUWEGA/FREMONT – Local voters will see several races and write-in opportunities in the Weyauwega-Fremont area on the upcoming April 7 election ballot.

Seats for city council, village trustee and school board will be decided, though all local incumbents seeking re-election are running unopposed, and two local seats have no candidates, meaning those races will be determined by write-in votes.

Voters can find information on registering, polling locations and what will appear on their ballots at myvote.wi.gov.

City of Weyauwega
Weyauwega Common Council alderpersons serve two-year terms. Each district has two alderpersons, with elections staggered so that one seat in each district appears on the ballot each year.

In Ward 1, incumbent Patrick Gorchals is running unopposed for the alderperson seat. Nathan Stelzner will also appear on the ballot for the District 1 seat, but has withdrawn from the race due to health issues. His name remains on the ballot because the withdrawal occurred after the filing deadline.

In Ward 2, incumbent Austin Baehnman is not seeking re-election. No candidates filed to run for the District 2 alderperson seat.

In Wards 3 and 4, incumbent Kesha Butzin is running unopposed for the alderperson District 3 seat.

Towns of Weyauwega and Fremont
No Town of Weyauwega or Town of Fremont offices are on the ballot this year. Town board members serve two-year terms and were elected in 2025. Residents in both towns will still vote on local school board seats, county and statewide races in the April election.

Village of Fremont
The Village of Fremont has three trustee seats up for election this spring, currently held by Steven Van Lyssel, Jim Falke and Scott “Skippy” Hart. All three trustees are seeking re-election with no challengers. Fremont village trustee seats carry a two-year term.

Weyauwega-Fremont School Board
The Weyauwega-Fremont School Board has seven members representing different municipalities: the townships of Waupaca, Saxeville and Lind; Royalton and Mukwa; Wolf River and Bloomfield; Weyauwega; Fremont; the Village of Fremont; and the City of Weyauwega.

Each spring, two or three seats come up for election, with the remaining members serving staggered terms.

The Town of Weyauwega school board seat currently held by Richard Wagner is on the ballot and Wagner is not seeking re-election. No candidates filed to run for the seat.

The Town of Fremont school board seat currently held by incumbent Eric Kohl is also up for election. Kohl is seeking re-election unopposed.

Other races
Voters will also see county and statewide contests on the ballot, including the Wisconsin Supreme Court, Court of Appeals Judge, Circuit Court Judge, County Supervisor and Municipal Judge.
